Our Queen has Fallen

Eighteen years ago, the First Queen, the Goddess of the Pulse, died. Her Heart split into two Halves, and fell to the Earth in a cataclysmic event known as Heartfall. The mortal who is able to reunite the Halve and return them to the Celestial Realm will earn immortality, and ascend as the new God of the Pulse.

Unbeknownst to those who seek the Halves, strange magic has imbued them with unexpected form: they walk the Earth as mortals. One of them was raised as a Prince, the other as an outcast.

What is Heartfall?

Heartfall is my current "main" story / worldbuilding project, which is currently still its early stages. The vibe is a cross between a fairy tale, a fantasy epic and (to my shame) a shonen anime. At its core, Heartfall is my attempt to write a story with a happy ending.

Its emotional core is the burgeoning romance between two characters, but... I don't usually think of it as a romance! Heartfall is a story about the humanity of Gods, and the Divinity of men. It's a story about how we have to be better than those who came before. It's a story about saving the world by being really gay.

Content Warnings

• Death. Death and grief are major themes. Characters will die.
• Disease. There will be depictions of fantasy plagues / corruptions and their symptoms. These may count as body horror.
• Religious Themes. The story involves fantasy Gods and the religious institutions dedicated to them.
• Violence. Characters will fight, and injure each other. Sometimes grievously. Occasionally, they'll kill each other.
